Who Can Get Dimmit County Birth Records

Texas limits access to recent birth records. You must be a qualified applicant to get a certified copy of a birth certificate that is less than 75 years old. The rules are in the Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 191.

Qualified applicants include the person on the record (if 18 or over), a parent listed on the certificate, a sibling, a child, a spouse, a grandparent, or a legal guardian or representative with proper documentation. Those acting as legal representatives must provide proof of their authority.

Records that are 75 years or older are public. Researchers and genealogists can access them without showing a family relationship. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission has older birth records for many counties.
